Stratford Irish is stepping away from senior hockey for one year. Co-owners Marco Alexander and Jeff Morris announced the hiatus from the Northern Premier Hockey League (NPHL) to reshape the team's future, Stratford Beacon Herald reported. The club plans to build a stronger roster with more local players and improve its operations during the break.
The team, which won two championships since joining what became the NPHL in 2021-22, must get league approval before returning. Alexander also owns Halton Hills, another NPHL team that will likewise need written permission to rejoin, The Observer noted.
