Gentari has opened up its AutoCharge feature to all Gentari Go users, letting compatible EVs start charging automatically the moment they are plugged in — no app tapping required. The rollout covers more than 100 DC fast-charging locations across Malaysia, HeadTopics reported, with regional expansion planned.
The expansion comes alongside a significant shake-up of the Go Rewards program. Gentari has doubled the number of points needed to redeem a charging discount and introduced expiry dates on all Go Points for the first time. The two changes land on the same day: July 1, 2026.
How AutoCharge Works and Who Can Use It
AutoCharge uses the vehicle's unique identifier — similar to a network MAC address — to recognize the car the instant it is plugged into a supported DC charger. After a one-time setup that links the vehicle to a Gentari Go account, charging begins without any further interaction. There is no extra fee; standard rates and promotions still apply, according to HeadTopics.
The feature originally launched in June 2024 as a perk exclusive to Power Pass subscribers, who paid RM899 per year. It is now free for every Gentari Go account holder. Users can register multiple EVs under one account and find AutoCharge-enabled stations through a dedicated icon on the app's home screen. The first 500 users who complete their first AutoCharge session will receive RM10 in Go Credits.
AutoCharge's Roots in a Now-Cancelled Subscription
Gentari launched its AutoCharge pilot at just 16 DC fast-charging locations in 2024, reserved for Power Pass holders. That subscription was quietly discontinued for new sign-ups on January 31, 2026. Gentari then introduced two new tiers — Go Starter at RM350 per year and Go Plus at RM699 per year — offering 15% and 30% discounts respectively.
By opening AutoCharge to all users, Gentari removes one of the last major perks that justified the old Power Pass price. Fadzrul Ahmad, Gentari's Chief Green Mobility Officer, said the expansion reflects the "growing maturity of Malaysia's EV ecosystem," with the focus now shifting from building infrastructure to improving the user experience, according to CarSifu.
Go Points Now Expire — and Buy Less Than Before
The Go Rewards overhaul hits loyal users in two ways. First, redeeming a RM20 charging discount now costs 400 Go Points, up from 200 — a 100% increase in point cost for the same reward. Second, points earned before June 30, 2026 are valid only until December 31, 2026. Any points earned from July 1, 2026 onward expire 180 days after they are earned, HeadTopics reported.
Gentari says the changes are needed to keep the rewards program sustainable as its user base grows. However, early adopters have pushed back on social media, calling the timing a "bait and switch." The sentiment is that the free-spending, high-discount era of Gentari Go is over, replaced by tighter fiscal controls on loyalty value.
Malaysia's EV Network Behind the AutoCharge Rollout
Gentari currently operates more than 600 charging points in Malaysia. Through its Go Roaming Hub, users can also access over 18,000 charging points across Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and India. Local roaming partners include DC Handal, JomCharge, and chargEV, which allow a cross-app experience without switching platforms, according to HeadTopics.
Not all EVs are compatible with AutoCharge, and the rollout is being phased in across both stations and vehicle models. Proton, Mercedes-Benz, and Lotus have all signed agreements with Gentari to verify vehicle compatibility. Analysts suggest the RM10 credit incentive for early AutoCharge sign-ups is partly a strategy to build a verified database of compatible vehicles on the network.
