Ameriprise Financial's stock is heavily concentrated among institutional investors, with 83.95% of shares owned by hedge funds and other institutions.
Duke Energy also has a high institutional ownership level, with 65.31% of its stock held by hedge funds and institutional investors.
Parker-Hannifin shows even higher institutional ownership, at 82.44% of its stock owned by hedge funds and institutional investors.
Marathon Petroleum's shares are 76.77% owned by hedge funds and other institutional investors.
Palo Alto Networks has 79.82% of its stock owned by hedge funds and institutional investors.
Kentucky Retirement Systems has sharply boosted its U.S. stock holdings across five major sectors, according to its latest SEC Form 13F filing. The pension fund increased its stake in Ameriprise Financial by 167.7%, Parker-Hannifin by 52.5%, General Motors by 57.3%, and Marathon Petroleum by 28.8% in the first quarter, according to Watchlist News.
The moves reflect a broad, cross-sector push into equities. Holdings now span financial services, utilities, industrials, energy, and cybersecurity — with total positions in the targeted stocks reaching tens of millions of dollars in combined value.
The largest percentage jump came in Ameriprise Financial, where Kentucky Retirement Systems grew its position by 167.7%. The fund now holds 16,062 shares worth roughly $7.1 million, according to Watchlist News. That is more than double what it held the prior quarter.
Parker-Hannifin, an industrial machinery maker, saw the fund's position grow 52.5%. The fund now holds 12,321 shares valued at about $11.0 million — the largest single holding by dollar value among the newly expanded positions. Duke Energy rose 19.3%, bringing that stake to 58,288 shares worth around $7.6 million, according to Watchlist News.
Kentucky Retirement Systems also added to its Marathon Petroleum position, buying enough shares to grow it by 28.8%. The fund now holds 24,853 shares valued at about $6.1 million. Marathon is one of the largest U.S. oil refiners, and its shares are 76.77% owned by institutional investors overall, according to Watchlist News.
In cybersecurity, the fund raised its Palo Alto Networks stake by 18.8%, bringing holdings to 20,544 shares worth around $3.29 million. Palo Alto Networks has 79.82% of its stock owned by hedge funds and institutions. The addition signals growing pension fund interest in the fast-growing cybersecurity sector.
Kentucky Retirement Systems is not alone in backing these names. Institutional ownership is high across all five stocks. Ameriprise Financial leads the group, with 83.95% of its shares held by hedge funds and institutions. Parker-Hannifin follows at 82.44%, according to Watchlist News.
Duke Energy sits at 65.31% institutional ownership — the lowest of the five but still well above average. High institutional concentration means large funds drive most of the buying and selling in these stocks. That can lead to bigger price swings when sentiment shifts.
Kentucky Retirement Systems has been active beyond just these five names. The fund also grew its Procter & Gamble position by 52.2%, reaching 224,421 shares, and boosted General Motors by 57.3% to 94,034 shares, according to Watchlist News. It also raised its stake in Marsh & McLennan by 46.2% and Accenture by 33.5%.
This pattern mirrors moves by other large pension funds. California State Teachers Retirement System grew its stake in Waters Corporation by 68.1% in the same period, according to Ticker Report. Across the board, large institutional investors appear to be adding exposure to U.S. equities heading into the second quarter.
