Park Remains Discovery

High School Runners Discover Human Remains in Long Island Park

A local high school track team discovered human remains in a Long Island park, possibly solving a year-long missing persons case. The remains were discovered by an Eagle Scout, who was leading the team on trails through Plandome Pond Park in Manhasset. Police are investigating whether the remains are those of Shi Hua Xu, a 79-year-old grandmother who vanished from her home in 2025. Xu, who suffers from dementia, was not wearing her tracker on the day she disappeared and her family has been desperately searching for her. Despite the discovery, the teen who found the remains told detectives he was happy to bring closure to a family.
