Pittsburg Police Officer and Suspect Wounded in Shooting Inside Police Department

A Pittsburg police officer and a man suspected of a felony were shot and wounded inside the Police Department on Thursday afternoon, causing a shutdown of both city hall and the adjoined police station. The officer was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the suspect with a wound to his ankle. A third person was injured during a scuffle inside a police holding cell following the shooting. Both the officer and suspect are expected to survive. The incident led to a third-party investigation by the Contra Costa district attorney, which is typically used for police shootings with death or serious injuries.
