Delhi records 98 new dengue cases in the first week of October, bringing the total to 695.

Delhi recorded 98 fresh dengue cases in the first week of October, pushing the city's 2026 total to 695, according to Municipal Corporation of Delhi. September marked the worst month yet, with 286 dengue cases and 124 malaria cases reported. Vector control teams have issued over 132,000 legal notices for mosquito breeding grounds and launched nearly 21,000 prosecutions.
The city has also recorded 29 chikungunya cases so far in October, according to India Today. No deaths from dengue or malaria have been reported in Delhi this year, but the rapid spike in cases has prompted officials to scale up vector control measures across all civic zones.
Delhi's mosquito-borne disease outbreak peaked in September with 286 dengue cases and 124 malaria cases, according to Hindustan Times. This marks the highest monthly tally for both diseases in 2026. August saw 90 dengue and 53 malaria cases by comparison, showing a sharp acceleration in the outbreak over the past two months.
Beyond dengue, Delhi has reported 29 chikungunya cases in October alone, India Today reported. The city has now recorded cases of three separate mosquito-borne diseases—dengue, malaria, and chikungunya—all spreading simultaneously. Health officials attribute the surge to ideal breeding conditions created by recent monsoon rains.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has issued 1,32,172 legal notices for conditions that allow mosquitoes to breed, with 20,882 prosecutions launched against violators, according to Hindustan Times. Teams are inspecting homes, drains, and public spaces weekly to eliminate stagnant water where Aedes mosquitoes lay eggs. Despite these efforts, cases continue to climb into October.
While the spike is alarming, India Today noted that zero deaths from dengue or malaria have occurred in Delhi so far this year. However, the pace of new cases—98 in a single week—suggests the outbreak is far from peaking. Health authorities are urging residents to clear standing water and use mosquito nets and repellent.
