Affair partner testifies former American Idol contestant discussed killing his wife

Botner testified that she and Flynn exchanged more than 100,000 text messages after their relationship began in 2024, when they were both on their church’s worship team.
Botner said Flynn’s comments about wanting Ashley dead became increasingly disturbing. She testified that he once said, “If I could kill her and not go to jail, I would,” and later told her he was “thinking about ways to kill her”; she said such comments came at least once a month.
Botner testified that she gave Flynn an ultimatum about their relationship just weeks before Ashley was killed.
Flynn allegedly showed Botner a firearm he kept in the center console of his truck, according to her testimony.
Ashley’s sister, Kayla Keyt, testified that the couple’s daughters were shocked to learn their father was having an affair; the oldest daughter was reportedly not surprised that Botner was the woman involved.
Alleigha Botner testified that she and former "American Idol" contestant Caleb Flynn exchanged over 100,000 text messages during their roughly two-year affair, many of which contained disturbing remarks about his wife. Yahoo News reported that Botner read messages aloud in court where she wrote "I want to kill her" and Flynn allegedly replied, "That makes two of us." Flynn is charged with murdering his wife Ashley on February 16 in their Ohio home and has pleaded not guilty.
Botner testified that Flynn discussed concrete ways to harm Ashley and repeated such comments at least once a month, saying things like "If I could kill her and not go to jail, I would." HuffPost reported that Flynn also showed Botner a firearm he kept in his truck's center console. The couple's two daughters, ages 9 and 11, were in the home when Ashley was killed, and prosecutors say Flynn staged the scene to look like a burglary.
Botner and Flynn began their relationship in 2024 while both served on their church's worship team. The affair lasted roughly two years, during which the pair exchanged more than 100,000 text messages. Botner testified that their communication centered heavily on their relationship and increasingly on his marriage to Ashley.
Botner told jurors that Flynn's comments about killing Ashley grew progressively darker over time. HuffPost reported that Flynn once told her, "If I could kill her and not go to jail, I would." Botner said Flynn later escalated to saying he was "thinking about ways to kill her." These violent remarks came at least once a month, according to her testimony.
In one exchange read aloud in court, Botner wrote "I want to kill her," and Flynn responded with "That makes two of us." Flynn allegedly told Botner he would sacrifice everything — his job, home, finances, and even his relationship with his daughters — to be with her. Just weeks before Ashley's death, Botner gave Flynn an ultimatum about their relationship.
Botner testified that Flynn showed her a firearm he kept in the center console of his truck. Yahoo News reported that Ashley was shot in the head on February 16 while her two daughters, ages 9 and 11, slept in the next room. Prosecutors say Flynn staged their Ohio home to look like a burglary to cover up the killing.
Ashley's sister, Kayla Keyt, testified about the daughters' reaction when they discovered Flynn's affair. People reported that the girls were shocked to learn their father had been unfaithful. The oldest daughter was notably less surprised when she learned that Botner — a fellow worship team member — was the woman involved in the affair.
