Federal Judge Dismisses Alec Baldwin Civil Rights Lawsuit Over Rust Prosecution

A lawsuit by Alec Baldwin accusing Santa Fe officials of malicious prosecution and civil rights violations for pursuing criminal charges against him in an accidental shooting death on the set of the film Rust has been dismissed by U.S. District Judge Kea Riggs. The judge found that the prosecutor in the case, Kari Morrissey, was entitled to immunity despite acknowledging a "very disturbing picture of malicious prosecutions". Baldwin had alleged that prosecutors intentionally concealed evidence that would vindicate him and sought to charge him for political gain. He also claimed that Santa Fe district attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Kari Morsey manipulated evidence and elicited false testimony to discredit him. The dismissal came after Baldwin's trial ended in a bizarre hearing over how police and prosecutors treated bullets.
