MAX Power's Lawson Well Program Uncovers More Natural Hydrogen-Rich Fractures, Advancing Validation

MAX Power Mining Corp. has hit more natural hydrogen-rich fractures at its Lawson well in Saskatchewan, pushing the drill deeper than originally planned, according to Ottawa Sun. The company says this is a step toward proving what could be the world's first large-scale commercial natural hydrogen discovery.
Drilling has now pulled 120 meters of core from deep underground — from a zone called the Deadwood Formation and the Precambrian rock below it. That core is now at AGAT Laboratories in Calgary for analysis, Recorder reported.
The well started by targeting a set depth. But it has since gone past that original plan. Northern News reported that Core #1 pulled up 63 meters of rock from the Deadwood Formation and Precambrian layers. Cores #2 and #3 added another 57 meters. Core #3 stopped at 2,397 meters below surface.
The team achieved 100% core recovery throughout the drilling. That means every meter drilled came back as a usable rock sample — an important detail for understanding what is underground. The cores are now being analyzed at a certified lab in Calgary.
Natural hydrogen is a gas that forms deep in the earth without human help. It seeps up through cracks, or fractures, in rock. Finding hydrogen-rich fractures at multiple depths in the same well is a positive sign for the project. Owen Sound Sun Times noted the company is working to confirm this as a new primary energy source.
Unlike hydrogen made in a factory, natural hydrogen needs no energy-intensive production process. If it can be tapped at scale, it could be a very low-cost, clean fuel. That is why finding multiple fracture zones in one well matters — it suggests the resource may be widespread.
Sending core samples to AGAT Laboratories is just the first step. The company still needs to complete the well and run flow tests. Those tests will measure how much hydrogen comes out, at what pressure, and at what concentration. Montreal Gazette noted that commerciality will be determined through completion and subsequent flow, pressure, and reservoir performance testing.
In simple terms: finding hydrogen in the rock is promising, but the company must prove it can flow to the surface in useful amounts. That answer will come from the next phase of testing. Until then, each new fracture found is a milestone — but not yet a guarantee.
The Lawson discovery sits near Central Butte, Saskatchewan — a small town in the Canadian prairies. If confirmed, it would mark the first time a large-scale natural hydrogen source has been proven commercially viable anywhere in the world. Ottawa Sun reported that MAX Power trades on the CSE under the ticker MAXX, and also on OTC markets as MAXTF.
Natural hydrogen exploration is still a young field globally. Most energy companies focus on making hydrogen from natural gas or electricity. A proven underground source in Canada would be a major shift. MAX Power's multi-well program at Lawson is designed to build the case well by well.
