Flagship Peugeot 5008 SUV Ushers in New Era for Space, Seating Seven Comfortably

Peugeot has repositioned its 5008 as a true flagship SUV, now stretching to 4.79 meters long and offering three rows of seats for up to seven passengers. The new model, built on Stellantis's STLA Medium platform, is one of the few 7-seat electric vehicles available under €60,000 in Europe, according to Motor1.
The E-5008 Long Range variant delivers up to 668 km of WLTP range and can charge from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes. Entry-level hybrid models start at around €39,660, while top-spec GT electric versions exceed €55,000, per SoyMotor.
The 5008 has come a long way. Peugeot launched it in 2009 as a compact people-carrier, competing with family minivans. By 2017, falling demand for MPVs forced a radical change. The car was reborn as a crossover SUV, and the nameplate was saved, according to CarExpert.
The third generation, revealed on March 20, 2024, goes further still. It sits on a "native electric" architecture — meaning it was designed from the ground up for large battery packs. That is how Peugeot fits a 98 kWh battery without removing the third row of seats, a feat few rivals have managed, Motor1 reported.
Space is the 5008's main weapon. With all seven seats folded, the boot holds 1,815 liters. With five seats up, it offers 748 liters. Even with all three rows in use, there is still 259 liters of cargo space, according to CarExpert.
Inside, the "Panoramic i-Cockpit" dominates with a signature 21-inch curved display. Design Director Matthias Hossann crafted the "feline" look. Reviewers at Carwow gave the cabin a 9/10, praising its "standout design," though they noted the hybrid engine can be "a bit noisy" and the touchscreens "fiddly."
Peugeot CEO Alain Favey, who took over in February 2025, has made the 5008 central to the brand's upmarket push. He stated, "In 2025, we are definitely in performance mode," pledging the "widest EV line-up of any mainstream brand," according to Stellantis Media.
Retail sales grew 20% year-on-year by mid-2026. In the UK alone, Peugeot's electric car sales more than doubled in 2024, reaching nearly 15,000 units and a 3.9% EV market share. The E-5008 directly challenges the Mercedes EQB, while undercutting it on price, per Electrifying.com.
The 5008's launch has not been without friction. Community data from Delais.fr suggests some buyers face delivery wait times of up to 10 months. That sits awkwardly against Peugeot's "Performance Mode" marketing claims.
Critics also point to the small steering wheel, which can block the instrument cluster for some drivers — a long-running complaint with Peugeot's i-Cockpit design. CarExpert called it a "bad wow" moment. Still, the E-5008 remains one of the only large-family EVs at this price point, giving Peugeot a rare competitive edge in a fast-tightening market ahead of the EU's 2035 combustion ban.
