Gemtek Technology and Dixon Technologies are teaming up to build optical connectivity equipment in India, combining tech expertise with manufacturing scale. Gemtek brings deep technical knowledge of optical communications and photonic integration—the science of routing light signals through tiny circuits. Dixon brings something equally valuable: established manufacturing plants, tested supply chains, and relationships across India's telecom and data markets. This pairing matters because optical components are critical but complex to make. India currently imports most high-speed optical parts. The company makes optical transceivers—devices that convert electrical signals into light and back—for networks operating at 1 gigabit per second all the way up to 1.6 terabits per second. The partnership also produces BOSA modules, which are tiny optical building blocks used inside larger communications systems. These components are expensive to import and represent a strategic gap in India's tech supply chain.
India is racing to build AI infrastructure and cloud data centers to compete globally. These facilities need enormous amounts of fiber-optic cable and optical equipment to move data at lightning speed.
