Bank of England Economist Huw Pill Warns Labor Market Slack Fails To Stop Inflation Risks

Bank of England Chief Economist Huw Pill has suggested that raising interest rates would help reduce inflation pressure, which has increased due to the Iran war. Pill argues that a prompt increase in Bank Rate could prevent the central bank from becoming more aggressive in the future. He and two other Monetary Policy Committee members voted to raise interest rates in July but were outvoted by colleagues who preferred no change. Investors in interest futures have priced the chance of a quarter-point rate hike at the MPC's next meeting at little over 15%, although this probability rose to over 70% for the subsequent meeting in November.
