Somber single-location romance review

The Echo Chamber, starring Luca Marinelli, Alicia Vikander and Susan Sarandon, is a single-location love story about a London flat owned by music producer Leonardo (Leonardo Marinelli), a music producer suffering from chronic lower back pain. The film is told in a flashback-and-forward structure, starting at the point of the relationship's biggest crisis when Anne (Vlicia Vikander) returns to find Leo (Leo) high-ceilinged, light-filled, book-lined, booklined, and a reading-nook conservatory area, a gargantuan sofa, a killer sound system, and space enough for a car park. Despite an enlivening turn from Susan Sarand, playing a singing icon whom Leo has brought out of retirement to record an album of new songs, the film does not impress beyond its limited interest in expanding on the inner worlds of its protagonists. The movie is directed by Andrea Pallaoro, who has previously directed with great restraint and restraint. Despite its overstretched two-hour length, it feels like it spends too much time with the couple.
