DualityBio Partners With Genentech to Develop Next-Generation Antibody-Drug Conjugates in Major Deal

DualityBio has signed a major deal with Genentech, the biotech arm of Roche, to develop new cancer-fighting drugs called antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). PR Newswire reports the agreement lets DualityBio use its DUPAC platform, a technology that attaches toxic payloads to antibodies to target tumors. DualityBio will pocket $45 million upfront and could earn over $1 billion more as drugs advance through development and hit the market.
The collaboration taps into DualityBio's proprietary DUPAC technology, which lets scientists design more effective cancer drugs. ADVFN Canada notes Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, will handle later-stage testing and worldwide sales. DualityBio keeps control of its platform while Genentech leverages it for oncology targets the pharma giant has selected.
Beyond the $45 million upfront check, DualityBio stands to earn more than $1 billion through development and commercial milestones. BarChart reports the deal also includes tiered royalties whenever approved products generate sales. This structure rewards DualityBio if drugs succeed while sharing financial risk with Genentech across the entire program portfolio.
Antibody-drug conjugates work like guided missiles. They carry cancer-killing chemicals to tumor cells while sparing healthy tissue. Yahoo Finance explains the technology has become a hot area in oncology because it can deliver stronger drugs directly to cancer. DualityBio's DUPAC platform improves on earlier ADC designs by using novel payloads that work better and cause fewer side effects.
