Beko Research Finds Fans Miss Crucial Matchday Moments Due to Home Appliance Demands

Eight in ten sports fans have missed a key moment in a match — not because of a bad camera angle, but because they were in the kitchen, according to new research from Newswire. The study, commissioned by home appliance brand Beko, found that 82% of fans have missed crucial sporting moments while grabbing food or drinks for guests.
The findings come as home viewing becomes the norm. Yahoo Finance reports that 77% of fans globally say they regularly or occasionally watch live sport at home, making the kitchen a central part of the matchday experience.
When it comes to appliances used during matchday hosting, the refrigerator tops the list. According to Newswire, 42% of fans globally rely on their fridge more than any other appliance during a sporting event. That puts it ahead of ovens and stoves, which were cited by 29% of respondents.
The numbers make sense. Hosting means stocking cold drinks and keeping food fresh for hours. Fans are not just watching — they are running a small food operation from their living rooms.
Beko's research pinpointed the two biggest kitchen headaches during sporting events. Yahoo Finance reports that preparing food on time and cleaning up afterwards tied as the top sources of stress for hosts. Both pressures pull fans away from the screen at the worst possible moments.
Missing a goal or a game-winning play while washing dishes is a real pain point for fans. The research suggests that the kitchen, not the TV, is where matchday goes wrong for most hosts.
Beko is using the research to promote its AI Adaptive Cool technology. According to Newswire, the system learns a household's usage patterns and automatically adjusts cooling settings. The goal is to keep food fresh and drinks cold throughout an event without the host having to think about it.
The technology also aims to cut energy use by optimising cooling only when needed. Beko calls itself Europe's leading home appliance company. The brand is pitching smarter appliances as the answer to the modern fan's biggest matchday frustration.
The shift to watching sport at home is clear. ADVFN notes that 77% of global fans regularly or occasionally watch live sport from their couch rather than at a stadium or bar. That shift puts more pressure on home setups — and on the appliances that support them.
As watch parties grow in popularity, the gap between a smooth hosting experience and a stressful one often comes down to how well-prepared the kitchen is. Beko's data suggests most hosts are still losing that battle — one missed goal at a time.
