Spirit Halloween Seeks 52,000 Seasonal Workers Across US and Canada; Apply Now

Spirit Halloween is hiring 52,000 seasonal workers for its 2026 season — the most jobs the company has ever posted in a single year, a 4% jump from the 50,000 roles offered in 2025, according to USA Today. Positions are open across more than 1,500 pop-up store locations in the United States and Canada.
CEO Steven Silverstein said the company offers "a dynamic and fun work environment where associates can be part of something truly special each season." Workers get a 30% discount on costumes, props, animatronics, and decor. The minimum age is 16 for most roles and 21 for district manager positions, according to USA Today.
The main way to apply is through the company's job portal at Work4Spirit.com. You can also text the word "REAPER" to 85000 to apply from your phone. Applications for sales associates and assistant store managers opened broadly around June 15, 2026, per USA Today.
Most stores won't open until August, when the physical setup and stocking phase begins. Once stores open, job seekers can also walk in and talk to a manager directly. That in-person approach can improve your chances of getting hired, according to tips shared by workers on Reddit and Indeed.
Spirit Halloween offers competitive hourly pay, retention bonuses for workers who stay through the season, and that 30% employee discount. The discount applies to high-ticket items like animatronics, not just costumes. Store manager Kimberly Duncan, who is in her sixth year with the company, described the work as watching "guests of all ages light up with excitement," per the company's news release.
The reality can be tougher than the fun image suggests. Employee reviews on Indeed and Reddit describe heavy weekly shipments and unpredictable scheduling. Some workers say stores hire up to 30 people but give each person only one or two four-hour shifts per week. All seasonal contracts are set to end November 1, right after Halloween.
Spirit Halloween was founded in 1983 in San Francisco. Spencer Gifts bought the brand in 1999 when it had just 60 locations. Today it runs more than 1,500 stores. The company built that growth by targeting vacant big-box spaces left behind by bankrupt retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond, Sears, and Big Lots, signing short-term leases at low rates, according to USA Today.
That strategy benefits landlords too. Spirit fills empty storefronts that would otherwise sit idle. Real estate analysts say Spirit's presence can boost foot traffic at nearby stores by as much as 25%. The company is now testing a "Spirit Christmas" concept, with 30-plus holiday pop-ups designed to extend those short-term leases deeper into the winter.
Spirit's hiring push comes as the National Retail Federation projects U.S. Halloween spending in 2026 will hit $13.1 billion, matching the record set in 2025. The average shopper is expected to spend $114.45, per NRF data cited by USA Today. That demand is what drives Spirit to staff up fast and wide every summer.
The company has also raised more than $163 million for pediatric hospital programs through its "Spirit of Children" charity since 2007. Even with the seasonal and temporary nature of the work, the scale of the hiring adds thousands of short-term jobs to local economies across North America each fall.
