Marvel’s Wolverine Review Highlights Strong Character Work Amid Repetitive Combat Systems

Marvel's Wolverine, a game based on Wolverine, has been criticised for its crude, boring battling and lacklustre gameplay. The game is set years before the founding of the X-Men and sees Wolverine reunited with Sabretooth and Mystique when their mentor, Nathaniel Essex, is kidnapped by billionaire Bolivar Trask. As players earn XP, they can unlock new techniques and special moves such as the tornado spin or spiral strike. However, the game's combat system is criticised for being overly regimented and lacks creativity. The graphics are criticised for their lack of attention to detail and presentation of a richly detailed Tokyo setting. Despite this, the player is praised for his portrayal of Wolverine as a flawed hero with a conflicted past and a flawed relationship with Sabreooth and Jean Grey.
