New York Mets' Juan Soto Placed on 10-Day IL with Left Calf Strain

Juan Soto, the New York Mets' best hitter, has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain, according to USA Today. The injury happened in the sixth inning of a 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Soto felt something wrong while running the bases and had to leave the game early.
The Mets recalled Eric Wagaman from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the roster spot, Heavy reported. The loss dropped New York's record to 43-61, leaving the team in last place in the NL East.
Soto batted twice in Friday night's game and drew two walks. He did not record a hit. When he felt discomfort running the bases in the sixth inning, the Mets pulled him for pinch hitter Jorge Polanco, according to Yahoo Sports.
Interim manager Andy Green confirmed the injury after the game. Green said Soto felt an issue while on the bases. Soto was scheduled for an MRI exam on his left calf to find out how serious the strain is, Heavy reported.
Even with the injury, Soto has been the Mets' top offensive player in 2025. He leads the team with 21 home runs and 52 RBI, according to Yahoo Sports. Losing him hurts a lineup that is already struggling to score runs.
The Mets will be without Soto for at least 10 days. His absence is expected to stretch into the MLB All-Star break, MyCentralJersey reported. That means New York's offense will need others to step up during a tough stretch of games.
To replace Soto on the roster, the Mets called up Eric Wagaman from Triple-A Syracuse, according to North Jersey. Wagaman is not expected to match Soto's production, but he gives the team an extra bat on the bench.
New York sits at 43-61, the worst record in the NL East. The team is still in the middle of a three-game series against the Dodgers, one of the best teams in baseball. Saturday's lineup will look very different without Soto in it, USA Today noted.
