Liverpool confirms the exit of sporting director Richard Hughes following a difficult transfer window.

Liverpool is searching for its fourth sporting director in four years after Richard Hughes resigned from the role. Hughes, who was expected to take up a similar position with Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, informed Liverpool of his departure early this year following the departure of Michael Edwards as chief executive of football for Fenway Sports Group, the club’s owner. The search for Hughes’ replacement is led by FSG’s president, Mike Gordon, who resumed the day-to-day running of the club after Edwards’ departure. Liverpool’ football structure will remain intact, with Julian Ward as technical director for FSG and Pedro Marques as director of football development at FSG.
