Dave's Killer Bread introduces new organic mini bagels, ideal for smaller meals and GLP-1 users.

Dave's Killer Bread has launched two new organic Mini Bagels, each clocking in at just 100 calories, as a direct answer to the GLP-1 drug revolution reshaping how Americans eat. Monroe News The two flavors — "Plain Awesome" and "Epic Everything" — are now on grocery shelves nationwide, priced at $7.49 for a 12-count bag.
GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound suppress appetite by slowing digestion, making a standard 280-calorie bagel physically hard to finish. Dave's Killer Bread's own survey of 2,000 Americans found that one-third of bagel eaters already think standard bagels are too large. Among Gen Z, that number jumps to nearly 50%, according to Commercial Baking.
The GLP-1 drug market has fundamentally changed what food companies can sell. Morgan Stanley estimates that by 2035, roughly 24 million Americans — about 7% of the population — will be on weight-loss drugs. FoodNavigator-USA The US obesity rate has already dropped from 39.9% in 2022 to 37% in 2025, largely due to these medications.
For food brands, the math is brutal. GLP-1 users eat roughly 21% fewer calories each year. "Every bite has to work harder for us now," said Maha Tahiri, CEO of food consultancy S2B, according to AgFunderNews. The market for GLP-1-friendly products hit $62.2 billion in early 2026 and is projected to reach $157.5 billion by 2035.
Each Mini Bagel contains 4 to 5 grams of protein — 5g for Epic Everything and 4g for Plain Awesome. That compares to 13g of protein in a standard Dave's Killer Bread Everything bagel, which also carries 280 calories. The mini format lets users get whole grains and protein without the caloric load their reduced appetites can't handle.
Cristina Watson, Senior Director of Brand Management at Dave's Killer Bread, described the product as designed for "on-the-go and fun-sized meals," adding that while the size is mini, the "taste is anything but," according to Prepared Foods. The brand already popularized thin-sliced bread in 2017 — the Mini Bagel is its boldest portion-control move yet.
The launch is a survival move for Flowers Foods, Dave's Killer Bread's parent company. In January 2025, Flowers Foods reported lower-than-expected sales in traditional bread, citing GLP-1 drug use as a factor, according to Just Food. CEO Ryals McMullian has since steered the portfolio toward "organic, keto, gluten-free, and premium" categories.
Competitors are making the same pivot. Nestlé launched its "Vital Pursuit" line targeting GLP-1 users, and Conagra has moved in the same direction, according to Savannah Now. Food-tech analyst Gali Artzi of PeakBridge calls the shift "the end of the calorie economy" and the rise of the "performance nutrition economy."
Not everyone is cheering. A 12-pack of Mini Bagels costs $7.49 — more per ounce than a standard 5-pack of larger bagels at $6.49. Some critics call this "shrinkflation" disguised as health innovation, according to The Grocery Edit. Others argue that even organic mini-bagels are still processed carbs that GLP-1 users should limit in favor of whole proteins and vegetables.
Still, retailers are responding to real demand. Grocery chains have begun creating dedicated GLP-1-friendly sections, and DKB's mini format has gone viral on TikTok, where users have turned the Plain Awesome bagels into mini pizza bagels and sliders. The optimal "Bagel O'Clock," per DKB's own survey data from Stock Titan: 9:06 a.m.
