WSU safety Jaylen Thomas had a standout performance in the team's game against Kansas State, scoring two interceptions and four tackles. His interception gave the team a boost in the second quarter, giving them a two-score lead. Thomas also earned a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 91.0, marking one of the best coverage marks in the country. His pick-six was the first by a Cougar defender since Ethan O'Connor in 2024. Despite this, WSU's defense was criticized for producing just seven pressures on K-State QB Avery Johnson, with only two from defensive ends Matyus McLain and Linus Zunk.
