Desjardins Launches Modernized Credit Card System in October for Enhanced Cardholder Experience

Desjardins Group will overhaul its credit card management system this October, rolling out new tools designed to give cardholders more control and lay the groundwork for future upgrades, according to AP News. The update is one of the most significant changes to how members manage their Desjardins credit cards in years.
The changes affect personal cardholders, authorized users, and business members alike. Calgary Herald noted that a key goal of the update is to clarify the roles, responsibilities, and access rights tied to different types of accounts.
One of the most practical new features targets lost or stolen cards. Under the new system, cardholders will be able to add a replacement card to their digital wallet right away — no waiting for a physical card to arrive in the mail first. This means payments can resume almost immediately after a card is reported missing, according to Toronto Sun.
The update also expands what cardholders can do on their own, without calling in. New self-service tools will let members handle more account tasks directly through Desjardins' online platform, reducing friction for everyday account management, The Whig reported.
Business members are getting a significant upgrade. The new platform will let them assign roles to employees, add credit cards to the online management system, and modify credit limits — all without needing to go through a branch or call centre, according to Leader-Post.
These self-service features are designed to give businesses more day-to-day control over their accounts. For companies managing multiple employee cards, the ability to adjust limits and assign roles in real time could cut down on administrative delays, Sudbury Star reported.
The update also changes how authorized users — people added to a primary cardholder's account — can access information. Under the new system, the primary cardholder can choose to grant an authorized user access to statements and transaction history if they wish, according to Brantford Expositor. This is a notable shift from a one-size-fits-all approach.
For current joint cardholders, no action is required to keep their existing setup. However, Desjardins will offer other options going forward, Chatham Daily News reported. The company is also updating the defined roles and responsibilities for both primary cardholders and authorized users across all account types.
Desjardins is framing the October changes as a stepping stone, not a finish line. The modernized system is built to support future innovations in credit card management, though the company has not detailed what those future features will look like, according to Observer.
The cooperative financial group serves millions of members across Canada. By rebuilding the backend of its credit card platform now, Desjardins says it is positioning itself to roll out new cardholder tools more quickly in the years ahead, Mitchell Advocate reported.
