AWS Unable to Restore Bahrain, UAE Cloud Zones

Amazon Web Services announced it cannot restore its Bahrain cloud region six months after Iranian attacks damaged multiple data centers in the Persian Gulf. CNBC reported that the destruction was so severe it exceeded the backup systems AWS had built to handle disasters. The company now expects to provide a Bahrain recovery update in early 2027, while it continues working to restore one damaged availability zone in the United Arab Emirates.
The outages have forced most customers to shift their operations to other AWS regions. Yahoo Finance noted that the damage to facilities in Bahrain and the UAE has raised concerns about how concentrated cloud infrastructure can become a target during regional conflicts. Amazon's stock fell 1.5% to $249.65 following the announcement of this rare infrastructure failure.

Companies that rely on Gulf-based cloud services now face pressure to spread their backup systems across more distant, safer locations.
