Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Leads Delegation to UK to Attract Investment

The delegation includes Public Works and Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu member secretary Meghnatha Reddy, and Guidance Tamil Nadu managing director and CEO Deepak Jacob.
Tamil Nadu dispatched its first export consignment to the UK on the very day the India-UK trade agreement came into effect, making it one of the first states to act on the pact.
Vijay’s itinerary includes efforts to deepen relationships with British companies already operating in Tamil Nadu, particularly in engineering, financial services, technology, manufacturing and global capability centres, and to encourage them to expand.
Vijay received a welcome from members of the Tamil diaspora in London, including supporters carrying Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam flags.
The visit generated a political controversy after Vijay was photographed hugging Ajith Kumar at Silverstone, according to one report; Ajith competed in the Michelin Le Mans Cup’s LMP3 Pro/Am category for Ajith RedAnt by Virage.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay wrapped up his first official overseas visit with major wins for the state. During a September 10-17 trip to the United Kingdom, Vijay signed investment deals worth over ABP Live Rs 15,300 crore—enough to create more than 10,000 jobs across the state. The agreements cover advanced manufacturing, electric vehicles, electronics, and global capability centers, marking a strong push to attract European companies.
The visit comes after Tamil Nadu implemented a new trade agreement with the UK, opening doors for joint ventures and technology transfers. Vijay also used the trip to study motorsports infrastructure at Silverstone, part of plans to build a Motor Sports City in Tamil Nadu. The delegation included Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna and other key state officials.
The Rs 15,300 crore in signed agreements represents a major boost for Tamil Nadu's economy. Trade Brains reported that Samvardhana Motherson—a major automotive supplier—led the deals, pledging Rs 11,000 crore for manufacturing projects. The investments span sectors including electrical equipment, advanced manufacturing, and global capability centers, all areas where Tamil Nadu is pushing growth.
These projects are expected to create direct and indirect jobs across engineering, financial services, technology, and manufacturing. The deals build momentum from the state's 2026 Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors' Conclave, where Tamil Nadu had already secured over Rs 1 lakh crore in investment pledges.
The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement provides the foundation for Vijay's investment push. Tamil Nadu was among the first states to act, sending its first export shipment to the UK on the very day the agreement took effect. This quick action signals the state's commitment to expanding bilateral trade and attracting British companies.
Vijay focused heavily on deepening relationships with British firms already operating in Tamil Nadu. The delegation specifically courted companies in engineering, financial services, and technology sectors, encouraging them to expand operations and invest further in the state.
Beyond investment talks, Vijay studied Silverstone's motorsports operations as part of plans for Tamil Nadu's own Motor Sports City. He attended the Michelin Le Mans Cup race where actor and racer Ajith Kumar competed in the LMP3 Pro/Am category for Ajith RedAnt by Virage, generating local interest in the state's racing ambitions.
The trip also highlighted the Tamil diaspora's connection to the state. Members of the Tamil community in London welcomed Vijay with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam flags, underscoring the cultural and economic ties binding overseas Tamils to their home state.
