At the start of the game, a personality quiz determines the player’s initial monster, potentially encouraging players to restart to obtain a preferred companion.

The Withered World introduces spherical fields as a new gameplay mechanic, alongside improved visuals intended to address criticism of the previous numbered entry’s graphics.

The game’s combat lets players either issue direct orders to their monster teams or use a customizable automated strategy focused on priorities such as healing or offense.

The two protagonists’ contrasting personalities—Nera’s timidity and Bianca’s adventurous outspokenness—create humorous interactions in the story, in addition to their different combat roles and monster preferences.
