TCS subsidiary HyperVault plans a massive $7.4 billion AI data-center campus in Hyderabad.

The project represents a strategic shift for TCS, traditionally an asset-light IT-services company, toward owning and operating physical AI infrastructure. The announcement also stated that HyperVault’s 2025 capital tie-up with TPG is a separate arrangement and should not be included in the ₹70,000-crore campus investment.
The campus will require more than land and buildings: dependable electricity generation and transmission, backup systems, water-conscious cooling, and a specialized supply chain for high-density AI equipment will be critical to its execution and commercial performance.
Telangana’s target date is tied to the state’s formation day: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said he wanted the center inaugurated on June 2, 2028, describing the period from groundbreaking to inauguration as 21 months.
Reddy linked the investment to Telangana’s broader economic ambitions, saying the state aims to help build a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047; he said Telangana currently contributes about 5% of India’s GDP and wants to raise that share to 10%.
The project is being developed in the state’s planned Future City area, and Reddy said the road from Kongara Kalan to Future City would be named after Bharat Ratna Ratan Tata.
TCS subsidiary HyperVault plans to invest up to $7.4 billion in a massive AI data-center campus in Hyderabad, Telangana, according to DigiTimes. The 1-gigawatt facility will span 264 acres and serve global AI companies and hyperscalers with high-density GPU computing power. Business Upturn reported the investment represents India's largest single AI infrastructure project to date.
The campus is designed to handle cutting-edge AI training and inference workloads using direct-to-chip liquid cooling. CXO Today noted HyperVault will target frontier AI developers and major tech firms globally. Telangana officials aim to have the facility inaugurated by June 2, 2028—just 21 months from groundbreaking—with plans to create roughly 7,000 direct and indirect jobs.
This project marks a major strategic pivot for TCS, a company traditionally known for asset-light IT services. Microgrid Media explained that the 1GW data-center campus represents TCS's move toward owning and operating large-scale physical infrastructure. The shift aligns with CEO K. Krithivasan's stated "Infrastructure-to-Intelligence" strategy, which links AI-ready hardware to enterprise transformation and cloud services.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy called the project "historic not just for Telangana but for India." Hyderabad Mail reported that the state competed against five other Indian regions to secure the investment. Reddy linked the campus to Telangana's broader ambition: raising the state's share of India's GDP from 5 percent to 10 percent by 2034 and building a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
The government pledged expedited approvals for power, environmental permits, and land use. Hyderabad Mail noted the main road to the Future City development will be named after Ratan Tata, the late Tata Group patriarch. Officials said the facility will create roughly 7,000 jobs in construction, engineering, and operations over the project's lifecycle.
The campus will feature compute density exceeding 170 kilowatts per rack—a first for India, according to HyperVault CEO Deepesh Kiran Nanda. Microgrid Media reported the facility uses direct-to-chip liquid cooling to manage intense heat loads from AI training workloads. Nanda stated the data center will be "on par or even ahead of anything that has been built globally."
Success depends on reliable infrastructure beyond the buildings themselves. The project requires stable grid power, backup generation, water-conscious cooling systems, and specialized supply chains for high-density GPU equipment. A phased rollout approach means HyperVault will expand capacity based on actual demand from anchor customers rather than building the full 1GW immediately.
The ₹70,000-crore (or $7.4 billion) commitment is an "up to" figure—actual spending will track customer demand for AI compute capacity. CXO Today noted that HyperVault and TCS have not yet disclosed specific partners, anchor customers, or a detailed construction schedule. A separate $1 billion capital commitment from investment firm TPG to TCS's data-center platform is distinct from the Hyderabad campus investment.
The ambitious June 2, 2028 inauguration target aligns with Telangana Formation Day and represents a tight 21-month schedule from groundbreaking to opening. Telangana Chief Minister Reddy also urged HyperVault to consider expanding the investment to ₹1 lakh crore (roughly $12 billion), signaling the state's hunger for larger-scale AI infrastructure projects.
