Feminist poet, editor and author Robin Morgan has passed away at age 85.

Robin Morgan, a feminist, poet and editor, has passed away at the age of 85. Known for her contributions to second-wave feminism, she was widely credited with coining the term “herstory” and popularizing the clenched fist/female symbol icon of the liberation movement. Her edited essay anthology, “Sisterhood is Powerful,” is considered one of the essential texts of the modern women’s movement. Morgan also influenced the movement's embrace of Sylvia Plath and condemnation of her husband, poet Ted Hughes. She was arrested and jailed in 1970 after occupying the offices of the avant-garde Grove Press, whose owner, Barney Rosset, was fighting employee unionization. In her personal life, Morgan had male and female lovers and was married for over 20 years to the gay poet Kenneth Pitchford.
