NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announces 10,000 families will receive child care vouchers.

New York City's Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced that over 10,000 families who have been waiting for child care vouchers will now receive them. The move will remove them from the waitlist for the state Child Care Assistance Program, which provides subsidies to low- and middle-income families with children aged six weeks to 13 years old, and older for children with disabilities. The vouchers are supported by $1.2 billion allocated by Gov. Kathy Hochul in the state budget, including $475 million specifically for child vouchers. Mamdan dismissed critics who reject efforts to deem universal child care a public good.
