Khadse Reviews Mizoram Sports Ecosystem, SAI Facilities

Khadse was accompanied at the SAI Aizawl centre by Shivam Yadav, the organisation’s assistant director, during her inspection and meetings with athletes and staff.

Khadse stressed that quality facilities and training opportunities should be available closer to where athletes live and train, reducing barriers to sustained preparation for competition.
She linked Mizoram athletes’ existing achievements to the need for sustained institutional support, while framing the government’s broader approach as identifying talent at the grassroots and giving athletes structured pathways to excellence.
Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse visited Aizawl to review Mizoram's sports infrastructure and athlete development systems. During the two-day trip, she inspected the Sports Authority of India center, met with athletes and coaches, and discussed ways to strengthen the Northeast's sports ecosystem PTI.
Khadse emphasized that quality coaching, sports science, and competitive opportunities must be available closer to where athletes train. She highlighted Khelo India and SAI programs as pathways from grassroots participation to elite competition, with planned improvements including a synthetic hockey turf and upgraded lighting at the Aizawl training center PTI.
Khadse met with Mizoram Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar to discuss government cooperation on athlete development. She stressed that reducing barriers to training and competition is critical for Northeast athletes to reach national and international levels PTI.
The minister linked Mizoram's existing sports achievements to the need for sustained institutional backing. She framed the central government's approach as identifying talent at grassroots level and creating structured pathways to excellence PTI.
During her inspection of the SAI Aizawl centre, accompanied by assistant director Shivam Yadav, Khadse assessed current facilities and identified areas for improvement. She reviewed conditions where athletes train and interact with coaching and support staff PTI.
Planned upgrades include a synthetic hockey turf and enhanced lighting systems at the training center. These improvements aim to provide athletes with better facilities without requiring travel to distant training hubs PTI.
Khadse identified football and hockey as sports where Mizoram has the strongest potential for athlete development. She called for concentrated effort and resources in these areas to build competitive programs PTI.
The minister stressed that athletes need quality coaching, sports science support, rehabilitation services, and nutrition guidance to compete at higher levels. She positioned these investments as essential for helping Northeast talent break through to elite competition PTI.
