Trump Uses Anti-Trans Slur to Attack Democratic Senate Candidate Annie Andrews

President Donald Trump used an anti-trans slur to attack Democratic Senate candidate Annie Andrews in a social media post urging voters to back Republican Sen. Darline Graham. Andrews, who is not transgender, responded by saying she would "work with anyone to put South Carolina first." The Human Rights Campaign criticized the remarks, calling them "the sad, disgusting, pathetic diatribes of a lame duck president with record low approval" and a desperate attempt to shore up support ahead of the midterms. Andrews has previously stated she does not support gender-affirming surgery for minors or transgender athletes' participation in women's sports.
