ICE Officer Surrenders After Facing Federal Charges for Lying About Shooting

Christian Castro, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, has been charged with lying to federal investigators about the shooting of Venezuelan man Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the leg in Minneapolis. Castro, who is also facing charges from Minnesota authorities, is the first federal immigration officer to be prosecuted by the Trump administration related to actions taken during Operation Metro Surge in the Twin Cities. The charges follow Castro's release from jail last week after Texas' governor refused to immediately sign an extradition warrant for him to be handed over to Minnesota authorities. Sosa Celis' attorney, Robin Wolpert, plans to seek damages from the federal government. The prosecutor, Matthew Evans, has reportedly been fired and under investigation for alleged obstruction of a grand jury probe.
