New York Jets Place Three Players on Injured Reserve Before Detroit Game

The 1-1 New York Jets head into Sunday’s game against Detroit after a painful overtime loss to Green Bay, but they see early returns from offseason additions as a reason for optimism: rookie edge rusher David Bailey has two sacks and leads the team with eight pressures, while safety Dane Belton has helped fill in for injured Minkah Fitzpatrick. The Jets placed defensive lineman David Onyemata, linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball and receiver Arian Smith on injured reserve, with Smith out for the season and Onyemata expected to miss several weeks; tight end Mason Taylor and Bailey also have injuries, though coach Aaron Glenn has said both will be fine. New York added Malik McClain, Jack Heflin and Troy Reeder to its active roster and signed Isaiah Loudermilk and Cody Hardy to the practice squad, while reporting says the team’s starters are generally expected to be available against the Lions. Detroit, meanwhile, promoted center Seth McLaughlin to its active roster and re-signed linebacker Joe Bachie to its practice squad.
Jets rookie David Bailey also forced a fumble against Green Bay. His selection with the second overall pick had been debated by fans who favored linebacker Arvell Reese, and the article says Bailey was ahead of Reese in the cited PFF categories after two games.
The three Jets players placed on injured reserve must miss at least four games before they can return.
Detroit center Seth McLaughlin had been on the Lions’ practice squad after making and then being waived from their initial 53-man roster. Linebacker Joe Bachie has appeared in 66 NFL games, making seven starts and recording 77 tackles.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn faces his former team: he was Detroit’s defensive coordinator before taking the head-coaching job in New York.
