Renault launches the new Triber Turbo with a 100hp engine starting at Rs 7.84 lakh.

Renault has added a turbo-petrol version of the seven-seat Triber, priced from Rs. 7.84 lakh to Rs. 8.99 lakh across the Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants. Its 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine produces about 100hp and 180Nm, and is paired at launch with a five-speed manual; Renault claims 21kpl, above the naturally aspirated manual’s 19.76kpl, though real-world fuel economy may be lower. The update also brings chassis, suspension, cooling and braking changes, while retaining the Triber’s familiar styling and feature set; reports say a CVT may join the range later, but it is not available at launch.

The turbo engine is not offered on the entry-level Authentic variant, which remains available only with the naturally aspirated petrol engine and manual gearbox. The turbo’s price premium over the corresponding naturally aspirated variants decreases up the range, from Rs. 1.11 lakh for the Evolution to Rs. 94,000 for the Emotion.

Renault claims the Triber Turbo can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 10.8 seconds. Its HR10 engine is also used in the Kiger and Duster, though the Triber’s version is tuned for more torque than those models’ versions.

The Triber Turbo retains the seven-seat layout and offers a claimed 625 litres of boot space with the third row folded. Its safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and Isofix mounts; Renault recalibrated the ABS, stability-control and traction-control systems for the turbo version.

Renault introduced a new engine-management system for the turbo, called REMS. The Triber’s Renault Group Entry Platform is also described as capable of accommodating CNG and CVT powertrains, although Renault had not confirmed either option for the Turbo.
