Mahindra Prepares Facelifted Thar 3-Door For September Launch With Rugged Design Updates

Mahindra’s launch invitation uses the tagline “We are giving India a new reason to love adventure,” while showing the silhouette of what appears to be the Thar 3-door without explicitly naming the SUV.
Test mules have reportedly shown two different grille designs: one resembling the Thar Roxx with six slots arranged in two rows, and another featuring five slots with an additional horizontal element.
Mahindra’s grille teaser carries the message “An icon, now more iconic,” while deliberately keeping the headlamps and complete front bumper out of view, indicating that further styling details may be reserved for the launch.
The expected powertrain lineup is described as comprising two diesel engines and one petrol engine, with the facelift’s changes focused on styling, cabin features and comfort rather than the core off-road hardware.
Mahindra will unveil a facelifted Thar 3-door SUV on September 22, 2026, at an event spanning Jodhpur and Nashik CarToq. New teasers reveal a rugged mesh grille and the SUV tackling muddy terrain, signaling the company's focus on off-road capability. The updated model carries the tagline "We are giving India a new reason to love adventure," though Mahindra has not yet formally named the vehicle.
The facelift promises more substantial changes than previous updates, including a redesigned grille, projector LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, revised taillights, and new alloy wheels inspired by the larger Thar Roxx CarToq. The cabin could gain an updated center console, wireless phone charging, and additional features. Mahindra's tagline for the grille teaser — "An icon, now more iconic" — hints at aggressive new styling while keeping some details under wraps.
Test mules have revealed two different grille designs competing for the final facelift CarToq. One resembles the Thar Roxx with six slots stacked in two rows. The other features five slots with an additional horizontal element across the center.
Mahindra's teaser strategy deliberately hides the headlamps and full front bumper from view. This suggests the company is reserving styling surprises for the official launch event. The rugged mesh-style grille shown in teasers reinforces the Thar's tough, adventure-focused identity.
The facelift will introduce projector LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, departing from the current design CarToq. New alloy wheels take inspiration from the Thar Roxx, Mahindra's larger three-row SUV. These visual changes modernize the Thar without abandoning its core off-road character.
Revised taillights complete the exterior overhaul. Inside, the cabin gets a lighter steering feel alongside wireless phone charging and an updated center console. These comfort upgrades aim to appeal to buyers seeking adventure without sacrificing convenience.
The existing powertrain lineup — two diesel engines and one petrol engine — will carry forward CareLelo. Four-wheel-drive capability remains standard. Mahindra has chosen to focus the facelift on styling, cabin features, and comfort rather than overhauling the core off-road hardware.
The expanded equipment and refreshed design will likely push prices higher than the current Thar 3-door CarToq. Buyers can expect to pay a premium for the new features and styling upgrades. The launch event in Jodhpur and Nashik will reveal exact pricing and variant details.
