Brady-Bündchen Marriage Strain
New Biography Details Years of Marriage Strain Between Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen
Anonymous
A forthcoming biography by Lars Anderson portrays Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen’s marriage as strained for years by Brady’s commitment to football and Bündchen’s reported requests for more support at home, time with their children, and room for her career. The book says Bündchen sent Brady a handwritten letter in 2018 about those concerns, which he reportedly kept, and that they later attended counseling. In August 2022, Brady reportedly took an 11-day absence from Buccaneers training camp in a final attempt to repair the relationship; the couple announced their divorce that October. The biography also recounts an alleged conversation in which Bündchen said they were incompatible and claims Brady later posted “True Love” after she had a child with Joaquim Valente as a pointed reference to their past disagreements. The accounts rely largely on sources quoted in the book, and neither Brady nor Bündchen has publicly commented on the claims.
Key Points
1
After the Patriots’ 2017 Super Bowl LI victory, Bündchen reportedly asked Brady whether it was time for him to retire; the book says he avoided answering. It also quotes Brady telling her, “Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now.”
2
Brady reportedly told Buccaneers coach Clyde Christensen, “I’ve got to take care of some personal things,” before leaving training camp. The book says only a few people at the team facility knew he was going to the Bahamas, and an assistant coach recalled uncertainty about whether Brady would return.
3
Christensen said Brady returned from the trip “an empty shell,” with “no joy,” while former coach Bruce Arians reportedly attributed Brady’s weight loss that summer to stress over his personal difficulties.
4
A former teammate quoted in the biography said Bündchen had grown tired of arranging so much of her life around Brady’s football schedule, highlighting an imbalance between the demands of his career and her own international modeling career.
