German chipmaker, Infineon Technologies AG, has invested 48 billion baht ($1.44 billion) into expanding its assembly and packaging footprint in Thailand to expand its assembly, packaging footprint. This investment could be a first step towards setting up wafer fabrication, although such a move is unlikely within the next three years. The move is attributed to Thailand's position as an Asian logistics hub, its developed semiconductor supply chain, and its neutral geopolitical stance.
