New York Attorney General Appointed Special Prosecutor in Cornell Fraternity Investigation

Hochul has appointed Letitia James as the Special Prosecutor in the case at Cornell University. The woman, identified as Jane Doe, alleges that she was plied with alcohol and drugs before being raped by multiple men at the Chi Phi fraternity house when she was a 20-year-old sophomore. She reported the incident to the Cornell University Police Department several weeks later, but no criminal charges were filed. Lawyers for at least three of the seven accused men have denied criminal wrongdoing. Matthew Van Houten, the Tompkins County district attorney, has announced that his office will reopen the investigation into Jane Doe's allegations.
