Kakao Pay Partners With Ondo and Dinari to Tokenize Korean Stocks for Foreign Markets

Kakao Pay Securities is pursuing overseas access to Korean-listed stocks through partnerships with tokenization firms Ondo Finance and Dinari, alongside a separate distribution partnership with U.S. broker-dealer Siebert Financial. The company and its partners plan to study how to source and safeguard the underlying shares, issue and redeem tokens backed by them, and reconcile token balances with shares held in pooled omnibus accounts for foreign investors. The proposed Dinari proof of concept would test a one-to-one backing model, while the broader work will examine how shareholder rights such as dividends and voting could be preserved. Ondo’s global distribution network could help reach overseas retail investors, and the separate Siebert initiative has cited a target launch window in the first half of 2027. The plans remain in the development and feasibility-study stage, rather than representing an already operating service.
Kakao Pay Securities serves around 9 million stock accounts in South Korea, giving its overseas-access plans a large domestic brokerage base.
Dinari’s tokenization platform has been used in more than 85 countries and regions. The company also began supporting stablecoin settlement and dividend payments for about 700 U.S. stocks and ETFs through a collaboration with Circle.
Ondo’s tokenized-stock business surpassed $1 billion in total value locked in May, about eight months after the service launched.
Tokenization could make Korean stocks more flexible to trade across time zones and could offer different settlement methods from conventional equity trading, according to the companies’ coverage of the initiative.
