The Cato Corporation plans to close 120 underperforming stores by late 2026.

The Cato Corporation, a clothing retailer in Charlotte, North Carolina, is closing more locations, bringing the total number of closures over the past year to 120. The company plans to close more underperforming stores in the third and fourth quarters of 2026. The closures will cost between $1 million and $1.3 million. The retailer expects to pay at least $1 billion to close stores. As of Oct. 1, Cato Fashions has 850 stores, with the largest number being in Texas, North North Carolina and Georgia.
