Nissan Debuts 2027 Rogue Hybrid Featuring First U.S. e-Power System

The Rogue Hybrid’s gasoline generator is rated at 148 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, uses a fixed 13:1 compression ratio and has a 5,200-rpm redline; its 1.67-kWh battery supplies electricity to the two drive motors.
Nissan is evaluating whether demand could justify a third shift at its Smyrna, Tennessee, and Canton plants, potentially raising U.S. production to nearly 1 million vehicles annually from about 487,000 in 2025; the company aims to build 80% of its U.S.-sold vehicles domestically by 2030.
The Rogue Hybrid’s upgraded ProPILOT Assist can perform automatic lane changes and enable hands-free driving in stop-and-go traffic, while its 360-degree camera offers a view designed to make the vehicle’s body appear transparent when navigating around obstacles.
The entry-level SV includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, Qi2 charging, a power liftgate, dual-zone climate control and hands-on ProPILOT Assist; the available SV Premium Package adds a panoramic sunroof and leatherette upholstery.
The hybrid introduces fourth-generation styling ahead of the gasoline Rogue, including a hexagon motif influenced by Japanese carpentry, a Mount Fuji silhouette on the rear side panels and seat quilting inspired by down jackets; Nissan says more than four million Rogues have been sold in the United States since 2008.
Nissan has unveiled the 2027 Rogue Hybrid, the first U.S. model to use the company's e-POWER series-hybrid system, which uses a 148-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter engine strictly as a generator rather than directly powering the wheels AutoConnectedCar. Two electric motors deliver 225 horsepower total with standard all-wheel drive, producing 38 mpg combined fuel economy without plug-in charging or a traditional transmission.
The hybrid Rogue launches this fall with pricing starting at $35,490 before destination fees, or $37,065 with the $1,575 fee included Yahoo Autos. Nissan will initially import the model from Japan but plans to shift production to its U.S. plants next year as it competes directly with the Toyota RAV4 and aims to build 80 percent of its U.S.-sold vehicles domestically by 2030.
Unlike traditional hybrids where the gas engine turns the wheels directly, e-POWER's 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine only generates electricity for a 1.67-kWh battery AutoConnectedCar. Dual electric motors—202 horsepower in front, 134 in the rear—drive all four wheels with instant torque response similar to a fully electric vehicle. Nissan removed the transmission entirely, offering one-pedal e-Pedal driving that lets drivers slow down and stop using the accelerator pedal alone.
The setup eliminates the "whiny" continuously variable transmission (CVT) sound that traditional hybrid shoppers complain about The Drive. Drivers experience smooth, EV-like acceleration without waiting for engine boost or transmission shifts, all without ever plugging in a charger or worrying about battery range.
Nissan currently produces about 487,000 vehicles annually in the U.S. at two plants in Tennessee and Mississippi, but the company is evaluating whether to add a third production shift at both facilities Nissan Leadership. The expansion could boost domestic output to nearly 1 million vehicles per year, supporting Nissan's goal to manufacture 80 percent of its U.S.-sold vehicles domestically by 2030 rather than importing them.
The Rogue Hybrid will initially ship from Japan to meet fall 2026 demand, but Nissan plans to move production to Smyrna, Tennessee, in 2027 or 2028. This domestic pivot reduces reliance on overseas factories and creates jobs in America while strengthening the company's supply chain.
The redesigned 2027 Rogue adds a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Qi2 wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera that makes the vehicle's body appear transparent when navigating tight spaces AutoConnectedCar. All trims include dual-zone climate control and a power liftgate. The upgraded ProPILOT Assist system can now perform automatic lane changes and enable hands-free driving in stop-and-go traffic.
The Rogue Hybrid introduces fourth-generation styling with a hexagon design motif influenced by Japanese carpentry and Mount Fuji silhouettes on the rear side panels Head Topics. Over 4 million Rogues have sold in the U.S. since 2008, and Nissan hopes this technology refresh will attract buyers willing to pay a premium for e-POWER's refined, quiet driving experience over cheaper traditional hybrids.
The 2027 Rogue Hybrid SV AWD starts at $35,490 before destination, with the fully loaded Platinum trimming out at $43,490 Yahoo Autos. When destination fees are included, entry-level pricing reaches $37,065. By contrast, Toyota's 2026 RAV4 Hybrid starts around $31,900 and delivers up to 47 mpg city versus the Rogue's 40 mpg city estimate.
Nissan is betting that buyers will pay more for the e-POWER system's smoother, quieter EV-like feel and superior standard equipment. The gamble hinges on convincing crossover shoppers that instant electric torque and transmission-free driving justify the price premium over the segment-leading RAV4 Hybrid.
