DOJ Targets Minnesota Judges

Justice Department files judicial misconduct complaint against federal judges in Minnesota.

The Justice Department is filing a judicial misconduct complaint against nearly all the federal judges in Minnesota, as part of an escalation in tensions between the Trump administration and the judicial branch. The complaint was prompted by a New York Times article in which six federal judges described the Justice Department's failure to comply with court orders during a surge of immigration enforcement actions as a serious threat to the rule of law. Attorney General Todd Blanche called for the judges to be disqualified from immigration-related cases and accused them of having an obvious bias towards the Department of Homeland Security. While the ethics complaint is pending at the federal appeals court, Blanche is urging the district court judges to recuse from DHS-related matters. This move may not significantly impact the administration's efforts to counter against judges perceived as hostile to its agenda.
