Monuments Unveiled in Phoenix and New York One Year After Charlie Kirk's Death

Turning Point USA said its Phoenix memorial would remain open to the public from about 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with visitors required to pass through security before entering.
The Times Square statue’s unveiling was scheduled for 2:33 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, matching the reported time Kirk was shot on Sept. 10, 2025.
Erika Kirk described the first 24 hours after her husband’s death as a “fever dream” and said Second Lady Usha Vance encouraged her to focus on getting through the next 15 minutes at a time.
FOX 10 reported that Kirk was shot in the neck during a Turning Point USA event and later died at a hospital; Tyler Robinson was arrested two days afterward and could face the death penalty if convicted. His next court appearance was scheduled for Oct. 23.
A Phoenix report said TPUSA has continued its work and expanded its political operation during the year since Kirk’s death, underscoring the organization’s ongoing activity beyond the memorial events.
One year after Charlie Kirk, co-founder of conservative activist group Turning Point USA, was assassinated at Utah Valley University, two bronze statues were unveiled in his honor — one outside TPUSA's Phoenix headquarters and another in Times Square. Yahoo reported that Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, shared a tribute to her late husband, describing the first 24 hours after his death as a "fever dream." The Phoenix statue depicts Kirk in his signature "FREEDOM" shirt, while the Times Square statue, created by artist Sergio Furnari at a cost of nearly $100,000, shows him seated with a microphone as a tribute to freedom of expression.
The New York unveiling drew both supporters and protesters. The Australian reported that the Times Square event was scheduled for 2:33 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, matching the time Kirk was shot on September 10, 2025. Far-right activist Jake Lang was reportedly chased and struck by a protester before escaping into the subway as police intervened. Meanwhile, Kirk's widow has assumed a leadership role at TPUSA, and the criminal case against Tyler Robinson, who has pleaded not guilty to Kirk's killing, remains pending.
Turning Point USA unveiled the Phoenix statue outside its headquarters as a permanent public memorial. KJZZ reported that the bronze-colored statue, created by Utah artist Stan Watts and standing approximately 8 feet tall, was unveiled at a memorial event. TPUSA said the statue would remain open to the public from about 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., but visitors would be required to pass through security before entering the site, underscoring heightened precautions for the politically sensitive tribute.
The New York unveiling created a more volatile atmosphere. The Australian reported that supporters, protesters, and far-right figures converged at Times Square. The incident escalated when Jake Lang was reportedly chased through the crowd and struck by a protester, forcing him to flee into a subway station while police worked to separate the groups. The public location and high foot traffic amplified the ideological tension surrounding the political memorial.
Erika Kirk has stepped into a prominent position within the organization her husband co-founded. Yahoo reported that Kirk described the first 24 hours after his husband's death as "a fever dream" and said Second Lady Usha Vance encouraged her to focus on getting through the next 15 minutes at a time. Her transition into leadership reflects TPUSA's effort to maintain continuity and institutional strength following the assassination.
Tyler Robinson, arrested two days after Kirk's death, has pleaded not guilty to the killing. Yahoo reported that Robinson was charged in connection with shooting Kirk in the neck during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. Robinson could face the death penalty if convicted, and his next court appearance was scheduled for October 23. The case remains one of the most high-profile prosecutions involving the assassination of a prominent political activist.
