Fall Tours Across Five Communities Offer Unique Seasonal Exploration Opportunities

Fall tours and excursions offer ways to explore neighborhoods, transit development, landscapes and seasonal attractions. In Newark, trolley tours will showcase Forest Hill’s historic homes and nearby landmarks, while a Seattle walking tour will examine the new Pinehurst Link station and debate surrounding zoning, housing and park use. South Jersey’s Pumpkin Patch Flyer pairs a scenic train ride with a stop to pick a pumpkin and enjoy fall activities. In St. Louis, a horticulturist-led trolley tour will explore Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum’s plant collection, and a free walk in Ludlow, Vermont, will highlight local trees with an arborist.
Newark’s trolley tours, led by Explore Newark Tours founder and Forest Hill resident Tim Hoey, are scheduled for Oct. 3 and Oct. 24, with morning and afternoon departures.
The Pinehurst walking tour is less than two miles, but includes stairs and an unpaved, non-ADA-accessible section of the Jackson Park Trail; Sound Transit will also host activity booths and live music at the station.
The Pumpkin Patch Flyer includes one pumpkin per ticket and a roughly 45-minute stop at Fenwick Grove; tickets start at $35, while cider and doughnuts cost extra.
Bellefontaine’s arboretum tour will highlight a collection of about 10,000 trees and shrubs spanning nearly 600 species, selections and varieties. Tickets are free, with a suggested $5 donation, and advance tickets are required because seating is limited.
Ludlow’s free arborist-led walk is expected to last 45 minutes to an hour and follows a loop from Kesman Park along Pleasant, High and Depot streets, with a refreshment break at the senior center.
