Hurricane Remnants Threaten Drought-Stricken Texas With Severe Flooding Risks

Rain from a hurricane that made landfall in Mexico is threatening to inundate drought-stricken parts of Texas that have not seen heavy rain in months. Other areas in the Central United States, including Colorado, Kansas and Iowa, also face the threat of heavy rain, which could lead to flash flooding. Texas officials have positioned crews and equipment across the state to prepare for the heavy rain. Governor Greg Abbott warned that heavy rain could lead flooding and rising rivers. Over 43 percent of Dallas County is experiencing an exceptional drought, the highest category of drought conditions.
