Minnesota Twins Rout Texas Rangers 10-2 and Imperil Their Playoff Hopes

The Minnesota Twins beat the Texas Rangers 10-2 on Friday, dealing a major blow to Texas’ bid for the AL West title with two regular-season games remaining. Jacob deGrom gave up eight earned runs on eight hits over four innings, including six in a decisive second inning, while Luke Keaschall drove in three runs and Joe Ryan held the Rangers to two runs over six innings. The Rangers had taken a 2-0 first-inning lead, but Minnesota quickly rallied and never trailed again. Texas also lost designated hitter Josh Jung after he was hit on the right hand by a pitch. The Rangers fell behind Houston in the division race, with the Astros holding the tiebreaker, and could be eliminated as soon as Saturday.
The eight earned runs tied Jacob deGrom’s career high; he also walked three and struck out five in four innings.
DeGrom reached 201 strikeouts for the season, his first 200-strikeout campaign since 2019, when he played for the New York Mets.
Kody Clemens went 3-for-4 and hit his team-leading 27th home run, adding three RBIs for Minnesota.
Texas manager Skip Schumaker had said before the game that the Rangers needed their “dudes to be dudes” if they wanted to reach October.
