Costco Plans 14 New Warehouses Across the United States and Canada

The Amherst warehouse will be Costco’s first location in the Buffalo metropolitan area; the nearest existing Costco is about 75 miles away in Rochester, New York.
Costco reported $297.3 billion in net sales for its 2026 fiscal year, up 10.2% from the previous year, underscoring the financial momentum behind its expansion.
Costco had 928 locations worldwide and 82.9 million paid members; annual dues were listed at $65 for Gold Star membership and $130 for Executive membership.
Beyond warehouse-attached fuel stations, Costco is developing standalone gas depots: one opened in Mission Viejo, California, in June, while a planned Honolulu site is expected to have 20 fueling islands and 40 pumps as part of a nine-acre redevelopment.
Consumer science professor Dominique Jones said bulk purchasing can offer a lower unit price during a period of elevated grocery costs: “If you can afford to buy in bulk, now is the time to buy in bulk.”
Costco is opening 14 new warehouses across the U.S. and Canada this fall, pushing ahead with aggressive expansion as shoppers seek bulk deals on groceries, household goods, and fuel. The 10 U.S. locations will span nine states including New York, Texas, California, and Arizona, while four Canadian sites will round out the growth. Yahoo Finance reported that Costco's $297.3 billion in fiscal 2026 sales — up 10.2% year-over-year — underscores the financial strength fueling the push.
The expansion marks a step toward Costco's long-term goal of opening more than 30 warehouses annually. Many new locations will include fuel stations, from a 16-pump facility in Amherst, New York, to a 24-pump expansion in Spanish Springs, Nevada. The retailer, which operates 928 locations worldwide with 82.9 million paid members, is betting that budget-conscious consumers will keep shopping as inflation pressures household spending.
The Amherst, New York warehouse fills a major geographic void in Western New York. The nearest Costco has been roughly 75 miles away in Rochester, making the Buffalo metropolitan area one of the last major U.S. cities without direct access. The new 16-pump fuel station will serve both warehouse shoppers and standalone customers, following Costco's push to grow its fuel business beyond traditional warehouse sites.
Costco is building standalone gas depots to reach price-conscious drivers who may not shop at its warehouses. A Mission Viejo, California location opened in June this year. A planned Honolulu site will feature 40 pumps across 20 fueling islands as part of a nine-acre redevelopment, signaling serious commitment to fuel as a profit driver and member draw.
Consumer science professor Dominique Jones noted that bulk purchasing now makes financial sense for budget-aware shoppers. "If you can afford to buy in bulk, now is the time to buy in bulk," Jones said, citing elevated grocery costs. Costco's expansion taps into this mindset: the retailer charges $65 annually for basic Gold Star membership and $130 for Executive membership, with members trading upfront fees for lower per-unit prices.
The 10 new U.S. warehouses will land in Missouri, Texas, New York, Kansas, California, Idaho, Arizona, Virginia, and Wisconsin. This geographic spread targets both densely populated regions and underserved markets. Combined with the four Canadian locations, the fall openings position Costco to capture new membership cohorts while deepening penetration in existing markets where growth remains strong.
