Flipkart and Netflix Partner to Offer Mobile Plan Access with India Shopping Loyalty Program

Key Points
1
Eligibility has explicit exclusions and timing rules: purchases under gold/silver coins or bars, infant formula/baby food, baby cereal, cigarettes/tobacco, Flipkart gift cards, digital products, and Flipkart-branded packaging do not count toward the four qualifying orders; orders must be successfully completed and the return window must have ended before they are counted.
2
Redemption flow is a hands-on process: after the fourth eligible order in a calendar month, Plus members go to the Netflix Benefits page, tap 'Claim Now' to be redirected to Netflix, and activate the Netflix Mobile plan (which streams on a single device in SD and can replace an existing Netflix subscription).
3
The deal is set against large market dynamics: India’s OTT audience reached 601.2 million in 2025 with 148.2 million active paid subscriptions, while e-retail grew 19-21% to about $65-66 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $170-180 billion by 2030, underscoring substantial growth potential for content-commerce ties.
4
The partnership unfolds in a highly competitive environment: Flipkart faces fierce competition from Amazon in traditional e-commerce and from players like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and BigBasket in quick commerce, with analysts noting it could influence retention ahead of a potential Mumbai listing.
Flipkart and Netflix have launched India's first e-commerce streaming partnership, turning everyday shopping into a path to free entertainment. Starting August 1, 2026, Flipkart Plus members who complete four qualifying orders of at least ₹299 each in a calendar month will unlock a free 30-day Netflix Mobile Plan, according to Indian Startup News and Yahoo Finance.
The deal is Netflix's first e-commerce partnership in India. It arrives as the country's streaming audience hit 601.2 million users in 2025, with 148.2 million paying subscribers. India's e-retail market also grew 19–21% to roughly $65–66 billion last year, making both sectors ripe for cross-platform deals, AdGully reported.
How the Benefit Works and Who Qualifies
Active Flipkart Plus members are eligible from day one. Non-Plus members can also qualify by completing 15 orders within any 12-month window, which automatically upgrades their status. Eligible purchases must be made on Flipkart, Flipkart Grocery, or Flipkart Minutes, according to The Tech Outlook.
Not every purchase counts. Orders paid with gold or silver coins, infant formula, baby food, baby cereal, cigarettes, gift cards, and digital products are all excluded. Orders must also be fully completed and past their return window before they count toward the four-order threshold, Indian Startup News noted.
Claiming Netflix: A Step-by-Step Redemption Process
Redeeming the benefit is a hands-on process. After the fourth qualifying order in a calendar month, Plus members visit the Netflix Benefits page on Flipkart, tap 'Claim Now,' and are redirected to Netflix to activate the Mobile Plan, according to AdGully.
The Netflix Mobile Plan streams on a single device in standard definition (SD). It can also replace an existing Netflix subscription. Members get one free month per qualifying calendar month, so consistent shopping is the key to keeping the perk active, The Tech Outlook reported.
Flipkart's Loyalty Play Ahead of Possible Mumbai Listing
The partnership is widely seen as a retention tool for Walmart-owned Flipkart. Analysts say content-driven loyalty perks can boost order frequency and reduce churn. The timing also matters: Flipkart is eyeing a potential Mumbai stock market listing, making strong user engagement numbers increasingly important, Yahoo Finance reported.
Flipkart faces heavy competition on two fronts. Amazon rivals it in traditional e-commerce. In quick commerce, it competes with Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket. Tying Netflix access to shopping gives Flipkart a perk none of those rivals currently match, according to Indian Startup News.
A Glimpse at What Content-Commerce Could Become in India
India's e-retail market is projected to grow from $65–66 billion today to $170–180 billion by 2030. At the same time, streaming is booming, with 601.2 million OTT users already in the country. That combination makes India a uniquely powerful testing ground for blending shopping with entertainment, AdGully noted.
The Flipkart-Netflix deal signals a broader shift: loyalty programs are no longer just about points and discounts. They are becoming portals to digital entertainment. If the model works in India, it could inspire similar content-commerce tie-ups across Asia and beyond, according to Yahoo Finance.
