Former Ann Arbor Nurse Charged With Helping ICE Detainee Escape Hospital

Chloe Renae Freeman, a former Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital nurse, is facing charges under a criminal complaint for allegedly assisting a man who was detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to flee the hospital. The complaint alleges that Freeman "knowingly" and "willfully" assisted in the man's escape on May 28, 2026, when she removed his IV and escorted him to the ambulance bay. The man, a citizen of Mexico, had been brought to the hospital after he attempted to flee from federal agents and had not obtained permission from the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission into the country before he was detained in Michigan. Freeman no longer works at Trinity Health Michigan and has stated that she did not agree with separating families and knew she was going to set him free.
