Four U.S. Firms Announce $2B South Korea Investment

The investment declaration and investor roundtable was held at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C., and MOTIE/KOTRA said the event included an “investment notification ceremony and investor roundtable.”
Air Products said its Pyeongtaek project is its “largest investment in South Korea since entering the market,” building rare-gas facilities for advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Beyond ultra-high-purity and rare gases, Air Products’ plan includes hydrogen production equipment as part of the dedicated industrial-gas infrastructure for next-generation semiconductor production in Pyeongtaek.
Axcelis Technologies said it has been producing ion implanters in South Korea since 2021, and that the Pyeongtaek expansion is expected to further strengthen Korea’s role as an export hub supplying ion implanters across the Asia-Pacific region.
South Korean Trade Minister Kim Jung-kwan told reporters after the event that the companies had expressed “trust in and support for South Korea’s foreign investment policy.”
Four U.S. technology companies announced a combined $2 billion investment in South Korea, spanning semiconductor materials, equipment, and clean energy. Seoul Dispatch reported the pledges at a Washington, D.C., ceremony, signaling continued U.S. confidence in Korea's industrial policy and deepening supply-chain ties between the two nations.
The deals cover Air Products' rare-gas facilities in Pyeongtaek, Axcelis Technologies' ion-implanter expansion, Corning's advanced-materials upgrades in Asan, and Pacifico Energy's 3.2-gigawatt offshore wind project near Jindo. South Korea's Trade Minister Kim Jung-kwan said the companies expressed "trust in and support for South Korea's foreign investment policy."
Air Products is building ultra-high-purity and rare-gas facilities in Pyeongtaek—its largest investment in South Korea since entering the market. Reuters reported the project will supply advanced semiconductor manufacturing with industrial gases and hydrogen production equipment needed for next-generation chip processes.
Axcelis Technologies plans to grow its ion-implantation equipment manufacturing in Pyeongtaek, building on production lines it has operated since 2021. The expansion aims to strengthen Korea's role as a regional export hub supplying ion implanters across Asia-Pacific markets.
Corning will upgrade production facilities in Asan to make advanced materials for next-generation mobile devices and semiconductors. Yahoo Finance also noted that Pacifico Energy will accelerate its 3.2-gigawatt offshore wind project near Jindo, adding clean-energy capacity to South Korea's grid.
South Korea's government framed the $2 billion commitment as proof of investor confidence during a shifting global trade environment. Officials said the deals will expand Korea's high-tech industrial ecosystem and strengthen advanced-industry linkages between Seoul and Washington, locking in mutual dependence on semiconductors and clean energy.
