Israel Raises Military Readiness in Gaza and Prepares for West Bank Contingency Scenarios

Katz said that 4,000 of the militants who entered Israel on October 7, 2023, had been killed and that about 2,000 remained; he said Netanyahu and he had ordered the military to pursue and kill them.
The Gaza ceasefire has technically been in place since October 2025, but deadly attacks have continued. The Hamas-run health authority says more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war.
The previous October 7 anniversary brought a security incident: militants in Gaza fired a rocket toward the Israeli community of Netiv Ha’asara. No rockets from Gaza have crossed into Israel since that incident, and a rocket fired in January fell short of its target.

Times of Israel reported that Katz said Israel would respond with a short, forceful campaign if such a rebellion occurs. However, military sources emphasized that no concrete intelligence suggests an imminent PA uprising. The planning appears to be defensive preparation rather than response to specific threats.
